John Randolph designed the side of the house to be rounded. He modeled this off of the White House!
In the beginning the railing on the porch and stairs was just iron. After seeing that the railing was too hot for him to touch. John decided to put wood over the iron to keep it from getting hot.
At the top of the column you can see a small whole. This is from a cannon ball that was shot at Nottoway during the Civil War.
This set of china was in the dining room. They're from France and are twenty four carat gold. It is said that when the plates are in order they tell a story. Yet no one knows what the order really is.
Also in the dining room is this beautiful frame work. The flower is a camilla flower. This was Emily's favorite flower!
This framework is the ancestral hall. At the top if gives off the look of praying hands. John wanted people to know his was a house of Christian people. John and his family were Episcopalian!
